  • The reason why Gisborne was so quiet yesterday was because it was a holiday commemorating the signing of the treaty of Waitaingi (I know i have spelled this wrong). This was when New Zealand gave stuff to the Maiori's.

So today on the front page of the national newspaper was the grounded Korean freighter. MM was there to record it all. Today the ferrys from the north and south island are cancelled due to 6 meter swells. A big front from Antartica has blown in and the Korean freighter got grounded right on the main beach of Gisborne. Everyone came down to watch this poor boat get bashed closer and closer to shore. They are flying experts from Australia to try and figure out what to do.

    Pictured to your right: clockwise:

    • bales of wool at the wool cooperative
    • a hedge of lavendar
    • another statue of Catain Cook, 1728-1779 - in 51 years this guy charted the world..but he had to have been a baby for some of those years. He came ashore at Gisborne and killed Maiori's when he tried to get food. So he didnt get any food and thats why they call the area Poverty Bay.
