  • At the start of the tramp over the mountain on the north end of Ohope Beach there is a sign depicting the shells you might find.

Like I said before, New Zealanders love tramping and there are tramps everywhere. These trails are beautifully maintained and seem to be everywhere on the island, especially when there are mountains to climb and secluded beaches to find.

    Pictured to your right: clockwise:

    • sign with local shells at the start of the tramp
    • a volcanic formation in the ocean - this is an old core of a volcano.
    • at the top of the mountain, before I go down the other side..this is a view southward over Opope Beach
    • seagulls are enjoying a 2pm siesta on Ohope Beach..
